P&A efforts often result in changing laws, regulations, policies, practices or organizational structures to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve greater independence, productivity and inclusion within the community and the workforce.
P&A staff members also regularly visit facilities where people with disabilities live. These include hospitals operated by the SC Department of Mental Health, the regional centers operated by the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, and selected Community Residential Care Facilities (also known as Assisted Living Facilities). Community Residential Care Facilities inspections are conducted as part of P&A’s Team Advocacy project. Each Team Advocacy visit involves a P&A staff member and a trained volunteer.
